Despite its small size, El Salvador is one of the 4th largest coffee producer in the world today. Every cup of coffee depends on the work of many different people – producers, pickers, roasters, and baristas, to name a few. Harvest time is perhaps the most labor-intensive step of coffee production, especially for farms that handpick their cherries. Many farms rely on seasonal workers who put in long hours while coffee farmers still face many challenges. Workers and their families usually don’t have access to education and healthcare. And their total income is dependent on the success of a harvest. For that “ALMA BAG” was born with the sole purpose of being able to help their farmers, to help out alleviate this instability & uncertainty. “ALMA” translated as “SOUL” BAGS are handmade by their own coffee workers, using only 100% recycled coffee bean bags inspired by the Salvadoran coffee farming. This handicraft is an extra source of income for many families from developing regions of El Salvador.
